How to care for your pottery
Your handmade pottery is food safe and lead free. I fire all my stoneware pottery to a temperature of over 2,100 degrees which makes it ideal for drinking, serving and baking. I use commercial clays and glazes and their specifications and formulations are safe and well tested. I strictly adhere to the manufacturers specifications for products used in creating my pottery.
My pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe but I always recommend that you hand wash all hand-made wares rather than use your dishwasher. Hand-washing will elongate the life of your pottery. Dishwashers are useful but create a saturated, hot environment that can be shocking to clay bodies and cause premature cracking or pores in the unglazed bottom of the clay pot to open up and eventually trap bacteria. Please use care and good judgment. Do not use harsh scrub pads to clean your pottery as they can scratch the surface. Your wares are intended for both hot and cold use; for hot beverages or soups, or items coming out of the oven or microwave, the surface will be hot to the touch so please handle with care. Never remove your pot directly from a hot environment and place something cold in it.
My pottery is oven safe but, never put a cold pot in a hot oven - always place pottery into a cold oven, then bring up to temperature. DO NOT PRE-HEAT OVEN. Avoid sudden temperature changes; thermal shock can cause pottery to crack or break. Please also avoid placing any pottery over an open flame or directly over a heating element (cook top, burner, etc).
